Boycott Wilshire Plaza Hotel

The Koreatown community asks your support in boycotting the Wilshire Plaza Hotel.

Testimonial
from a Wilshire Plaza worker

I have been diagnosed with breast cancer since 2003. I was getting medical treatment until November 2006, but because the new hotel owner refused to continue paying the medical treatment, my treatment has been suspended. Therefore, my life is in danger.

Zoila Menéndez, worker at Wilshire Plaza Hotel

For years, the employees of this hotel received decent wages and good benefits.  They were a member of our community that we could be proud of.  That changed last fall.

Leo Lee, the new owner, slashed pay nearly to the minimum wage, a reduction of hundreds of dollars a week in salary for some employees and their families.

Mr. Lee took away retirement benefits, paid holidays and even a paid meal break.

Worst of all, Mr. Lee got rid of health benefits, causing enormous hardships for workers.  (See sidebar.)  Employees have had to stop treatments for existing illness, and have experienced enormous stress worrying about their health, and the health of their families.

In Koreatown, and in America, we hold bad employers like Mr. Lee to a higher standard.  Join our community in standing behind these workers as they fight for justice.

How to get involved.
If you can, consider contributing to our relief efforts as we make sure these workers have food on their tables.  Also, we ask that you call companies that are planning on  doing business with the Wilshire Plaza and ask them to respect the will of the community.

Thank you for your support.
